Ismah joined motorsport as a mechanic in 2002. He worked with Arthur Blick in 2002 who later retired from rallying. He later joined the crew of Umar Mayanja, then had a short spell with the four time National Rally Champion Charlie Lubega in 2004 before Charlies’ retirement. His experience as a mechanic helped him learn the ins and outs of a rally car.

Ismah purchased a Toyota Levin, converted it into a rally car, got some training from Umar Mayanja. He joined as a participant in the 2WD category in 2008 and by the end of the season he was the 2nd overall in the 2WD National Championship category. With support from Jomayi property consultants, Ismah managed to win the 2WD championship and he is currently the reigning champion.
